Veterinarian Questions

North Side Animal Clinic in Springfield, MO, knows you may have many questions. Below are some of the most common questions we get asked. For further questions, call us today, and we’d be happy to help you.

  • How Often Should I Take My Pet to the Veterinarian?

How often you take your pet to the veterinarian depends on your health status and age. Healthy adult dogs and cats will generally only visit the vet once a year for a routine wellness checkup. If your pet is a senior or has a chronic health condition, they may need to see us more often.

  • What Should I Do if My Pet Has an Emergency Outside Office Hours?

If your pet has a medical emergency, contact the local emergency vet clinic. They will be able to assist you. We may be able to fit you in during our office hours. Give us a call, and we can direct you whichever way we need.

  • What Vaccinations Does My Pet Need?

A standard one for all is the rabies vaccination. However, your pet’s vaccination schedule will depend on age, lifestyle, and risk factors. We can recommend the vaccinations that best work for your cat or dog.

  • What is the Protocol for a Pet Having Surgery?

Your pet must not have food or water after midnight on the night before their surgery. You can drop your pet off between 7:30 - 8:15 am and pick them up anytime around 4 pm. Any other special instructions will have been communicated with you before the surgery date.

  • What Should I Watch for After My Pet Has Surgery?

The most important thing to do is keep the incision clean and dry. Discourage any licking on the incision area. If you are given pain medicine or antibiotics, ensure you give them to your pet at the times instructed.
